After days of rain, it let up just in time for us to have the girls’ birthday party at the playground on Saturday. Thank goodness, because it would have been standing room only if all of us had to cram into my house. A bunch of Vada’s friends from preschool came and she was so excited to see them all! I felt a little guilty about not making a fancy pink ombre cake or magical fruit wands a la Pinterest, but the kids didn’t seem to mind ;) We had fruit salad, seven layer dip and chips, pizza and cupcakes to eat. The kids ran around the playground, busted open a Hello Kitty piñata, and played some beanbag toss. We made sure to have a ton of PINK! balloons for Vada – her favorite color and one of her favorite things.
The girls got so many nice presents. Vada wanted to open them so badly she couldn’t stand it. Then once she did, she couldn’t wait to go home and play with all of her new stuff. I have no idea how it’s been four years since Vada was born. I’m so proud of this little big-girl who has blossomed so much over the past year. She’s become such an outgoing kid, which as more of an introvert, I really admire. Her prissiness amazes me sometimes but I love it. (For example, she fell down in the dirt on our way to the car before the party and the first thing she said was “Oh, no! MY DRESS!”) She loves balloons, PINK, nail polish, “lipstick” (lip smackers) and “beautiful” dresses. She wants to be a princess/doctor when she grows up. She also loves painting, coloring and drawing, and I completely love her artwork. She’s very sweet and such a thoughtful kid. She’s so freaking smart and she gets prettier every day. I love to watch her grow and change and I’m so glad she’s mine! Happy birthday, Vadez!
Liza got to enjoy her first cupcake, which she loved (of course.) She had a lot of fun but got a little partied out toward the end. If you think time goes by quickly once you have a baby, try having two. Liza’s first year has gone by in a flash! I love this beautiful little bean so much. She’s sweet and easy and so, so funny. She loves be outside and to laugh and play. Her quirky little sprout of hair and chubby thighs make me so happy and I love how she looks so much like her daddy. I’m so lucky to have this little girl to pal around with every day. Happy birthday, Lizabean!!!
One of my favorite parts of the girls’ birthdays was having so much family in town. Liza’s baptism was the day after the party, so both of my parents and my sister drove up on Thursday night to stay with us for the weekend. Me, Mom, Elyse and Vada all went out for manicures, did some shopping and got lunch on Friday. As Vada said, “girls four years and older ONLY.” Haha! Greg’s brother flew in from Boston on Saturday and his dad drove up from South Carolina. It was so nice and such a good time having everyone around. I wish we all lived closer. Hopefully we can make a tradition of this and we can all get together again next year.
